Remote Worker/Work From Home Security Checklist

Working from home presents its own security challenges. Your remote workers are being targeted by hacker groups and organized crime groups. The isolation and distractions increase your vulnerability.
When working from home, follow these security best-practices:

  • Use a trusted computer provided by your organization or a well maintained personally owned computer (if allowed by your network administrator)
  • Ensure all computers are fully patched including the operating system, line of business applications, and helper programs like web browsers, PDF readers, and ZIP programs
  • Do not operate your computer using administrator privileges for day-to-day work
  • Follow the 3-2-1 rule to backup your data
  • Use 2FA/MFA with all login credentials
  • Use a password manager to create and store strong passwords
  • Do not reuse passwords across websites and services
  • Watch out for hackers and attackers using phishing, pharming, vishing, and smishing
  • Put away sensitive work papers and materials when not in use
  • Use anti-virus and anti-spam solutions that include strong reliable malware detection
  • Think before you click
  • Report any suspicious activity
