Start the New Year off Smart

For many people the start of a new year brings thoughts of resolutions, what you should improve, what you start doing and what you should stop doing. Have you ever thought to apply this to your business IT security? Continue reading for a list of some basic IT secruity practices you can implement now to improve how secure your business is.

Improve Passwords

Passwords, passwords, passwords. It’s nearly impossible for most of us to remember the dozens and dozens of login credentials we need every day. Password managers solve this problem by requiring you to remember only a single, master password.

Using a password manager like LastPass, which has a free version as well as paid options for personal and corporate accounts, makes life a lot easier.  With a password manager you only need to remember one password to access all of the rest.

Implement Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA technologies are an essential tool for businesses looking to protect themselves from cyber attacks. These technologies work to verify the identity of users through multiple methods, providing an additional layer of security beyond just a password.

Digital Cleansing

The beginning of the year is a perfect time to delete all those un-used apps that you have installed on your smartphone. Some of these apps might not have adequate privacy and security settings. Now is a great time to review those and remove the ones that are not secure.

Prioritizing Privacy

Your business is privy to a lot of data. A lot of information flows in from clients, vendors and even your employees. This includes Personally Identifiable Information (PII)–data that can help identify an individual and perhaps even get in touch with them. A privacy policy tells others how your business will be using all the PII.
